Duvet Cover Buying Guide

Exploring duvet covers online unveils a vast array of options, ranging from calming neutrals to bold geometric patterns and quirky themes like Slothzilla. But is choosing a duvet cover as straightforward as finding a style that complements your bedroom and personality? Let’s delve into key considerations with this concise duvet cover buying guide, ensuring you and your duvet are well taken care of.

Size Matters

measuring duvet size

Unlike duvet inserts and covers, there’s no international standard sizing, making it crucial to compare cover dimensions with your duvet. A cover that’s too small may cause buckling, while an excessively large one can result in the duvet swimming around. Ideally, the cover should be close in size to the duvet, up to 1-2” larger on all sides. Account for shrinkage, especially with unwashed covers, expecting a 1-3% reduction after the first wash. Cotton covers, especially with lower thread counts, tend to shrink more than blends.

Care & Maintenance

Checking the care instructions is essential for those seeking convenience in washing. If you prefer easy maintenance, opt for a duvet cover that can be thrown in with the rest of your bedding. 100% cotton covers may wrinkle after washing, so consider a cotton blend for a wrinkle-free option. Our duvet covers are made with the same fine-spun and soft microfibres manufactured by our high-quality Clara Clark bedsheets.   They are comfortable and the more they are washed the softer they become. They do not stretch, or shrink and are fade-resistant.

Frequency of Use

For year-round use, invest in a high-quality cotton cover for optimal sleeping temperatures. Neutral solids or small patterns that mimic solids offer a timeless look. If you enjoy changing covers regularly, embrace more adventurous styles and patterns. Consider seasonal fabrics like velvet or flannel for winter coziness and breathable linen for summer freshness. Tailor your choice to match your preferences and the frequency of use to ensure a lasting and stylish investment.
